Bright is a picturesque township in Victoria's High Country, 343km North East of Melbourne and a comfortable drive of just under 4 hours. The historic township is one of Victoria's favourite year-round holiday places, known as much for its spectacular autumn colour as it is for its perfect location on the Ovens River, nestled between the Mount Buffalo and Alpine National Parks in the spectacular High Country.
If you're planning an Autumn getaway be sure to catch the 'Bright Autumn Festival', a ten-day celebration of the season with a parade of autumnal colours and produce, markets, live music and a grand parade. The festival was first held in 1962, making it one of the oldest continuous festivals in the country.
There is no shortage of accommodation with plenty of Caravan Parks together with Motels, Holiday Units, B&Bs and luxurious guesthouses. The township offers numerous places to eat and drink - from family-friendly pizza to excellent counter meals at the local pub, delicious cakes and coffee, and sophisticated fine dining. Meet the makers of some of Victoria's finest food, wine and award-winning craft beers. Head to Feathertop for wine tasting and garden-terrace lunches overlooking Mt Buffalo and the Ovens Valley.
Looking for some outdoor action? Then the famous Murray to Mountains Rail Trail is for you, leading all the way through the Ovens Valley to Bright, making this a mecca for cyclists. Or, cycle the easy sealed Rail Trail to charming local villages of Porepunkah or Wandiligong. For walkers, Bright offers 17 excellent short and long walking trails around the town, like the 4km / 2.5 hours return Canyon Walk.
There is a lot to love about Bright. From river swimming, bike riding, camping, wildlife spotting and horse riding, there's fly fishing, golf, tennis, croquet, bowls and a stack of festivals throughout the year. Or try something completely different - paragliding, from 500 metres above, and see the region from a whole new perspective.
