CIL’s Quick Response to Bushfire Claim

The bushfires in January of this year were devastating, and it’s not until you hear the stories of loss and hardship that you fully understand how families have suffered.

Andrew Butcher along with his wife Linda and son Hamish from Wandella, on the NSW South Coast, were caught in the bushfires on January 1, where they lost several sheds on their property and their slide-on caravan was damaged.

After lodging a claim for their slide-on caravan on January 4, the CIL Insurance claims team made contact with Andrew on January 6 to establish if the family required any further assistance and if they were healthy and safe from the fires.

Once confirmed they were out of danger, the claim process stepped into gear. After assessing the damage to the caravan from photos and conversations with Andrew. It quickly became clear to the CIL Claims team that the caravan was a write-off. In just 72 hours, the claim was lodged and progressed to assessment. Discussions then centred around the settlement of the claim, including the value of the contents of the van.

Andrew and Linda quickly found a replacement van during the claims process but were unable to purchase it until the assessment and settlement was complete.

CIL identified the urgent need for a new van after discussions with Andrew. The assessment, necessary paperwork and payment were all completed on the same day, so the Butcher family was able to take possession of the new caravan and start to rebuild their lives again in Wandella.

The Butchers were without power for a month after the fire, they were most grateful when CIL allowed them to retain the damaged slide-on for cooking and hot water during this time.

The Butchers openly expressed their gratitude for the way CIL handled their claim and commented:
